Crop

The most important factor you’ll need to consider when selecting a baler is the type of crop you’ll be bundling. Even different strains of hay may require different levels of moisture and compression in order to be effectively baled. Before selecting a baler we advise doing a little research on the crop you plan to bundle.
 

Bale size

Generally speaking there are two types of balers. Those that produce round bales and those that produce square ones. Square balers often create larger bales that are easier to stack but pretty difficult to transport. Round bales generally aren’t stacked but are easier to transport and cheaper to make.
 

Chamber Type

If you’ve decided to select a round baler you’ll also need to decide between chamber types. Fixed chambers are more simplistic, making repairs a bit easier. The bales also aren’t as dense, making it easier for smaller animals to feed. However, fixed chambers don’t allow you to choose the size of your bale like a variable chamber does. A variable chamber’s denser bales can also protect against moisture and mold.
