Engine & Battery Inspection

Did you know that gas golf carts are equipped with on-demand engines? This means the engine only works when you step on the gas pedal. It also turns off as soon as you take your foot off the pedal, which helps save gas while reducing noise levels and emissions. There’s plenty you can do on your own time to keep the engine running and performing to your liking.

Check fluid levels regularly and fix any leaks. Always ensure that the battery cables are not frayed and that they’re tightly connected. If you notice moisture on the distributor cap, be sure to dry it out entirely. You should also check the condition of the spark plugs and air filter to see if they need to be replaced. Lastly, inspect the fuel lines and fix any cracks and leaks you find.

Tire Inspection & Repair

Don’t neglect your tires when it comes time to address golf cart maintenance. After all, they’re the main buffer between your vehicle and the road, so you need to take proper care of them. If they’re over-inflated, you’ll have reduced contact with the road that leads to less traction. Under-inflated tires are also problematic as they have to work harder to move, which increases fuel consumption. Therefore, it’s critical to inflate the tires to the level that’s recommended in your owner’s manual.

Check the tread while you’re at it, making sure it’s not too low or totally bald. These two issues can cause tires to blow and lead to loss of control and injuries. As always, don’t hesitate to contact us if you need help with tire repair for your golf cart. The sooner you address potential tire issues, the safer you’ll be.

Brake Inspections & Service

Last but not least, don’t forget about the brakes! Inspect the brake pedal to ensure that the pivots are moving freely and the springs are clean and well-lubricated. Remove the drum (the large part that the wheel is connected to) so you can examine the internal components. The shoes should have at least 1 mm of material along with an even wear pattern. You can use a brake cleaner on the bracket system and springs if needed. When it comes to squeaking, you’ll need to clean the drum. Keep in mind that squeaking noises during the rain are often normal. Grinding is a bigger problem that will often need to be addressed by a professional.
